Cold weather doesn’t have to stop the fun, but your SURRON battery does need a little extra love. Whether you’re riding all winter or parking the bike until spring, here are 5 tips to keep it healthy.
1. Keep it dry. Your SURRON can handle snow and rain, and the battery has an IP67-rated enclosure that protects against dust and water. Still, don’t let snow or water pile up around the battery compartment, and keep the connections clean and dry.
2. Expect less range in the cold. Below 0°C, battery efficiency, capacity and range all drop. Go easy on Sport Mode in freezing temps and leave yourself some extra battery on every ride.
3. Disconnect for long-term storage. Not riding for a month or more? Turn off the main circuit breaker or disconnect the battery (check your model’s instructions) to prevent it from slowly draining.
4. Keep the charge in the sweet spot. Don’t let the battery run low. For storage, aim for 60-80% and check it monthly.
5. Store and charge above freezing. Keep the battery somewhere dry and temperature-controlled. Never charge it below 0°C. If it’s been out in the cold, let it warm up naturally before plugging in, since charging a frozen battery can permanently damage the cells.
